PT ASURANSI CIGNA SUPPORTS INDONESIAN CANCER FOUNDATION'S ANTI-SMOKING CAMPAIGNS

Everybody knows the hazardous effect of smoking on people 's health. Many anti-smoking programs have been planned and run by different government agencies and NGOs to encourage people to stay away from or cut down on smoking.

A concern for the young generation and a sustained say-no-to-smoking commitment led PT Asuransi CIGNA, with support from the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (Yayasan Kanker Indonesia), to hold a symposium on No-Smoking-at-School Movement with a ‘Smoke-Free Air for Children of Indonesia' theme. Students coming from 4 junior and 4 senior high schools attended the symposium, which took place at Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta , on February 23, 2008 . Officially opened by the Governor of Jakarta, Mr. Fauzi Bowo, following an opening speech by Mrs. Adiati Arifin M. Siregar, the chairwoman of Indonesian Cancer Foundation . T he symposium was filled with cheerful and interactive discussions. Many participants took part in Q&A sessions, and ‘Smoke-Free Environment' T-shirts donated by CIGNA were given to everyone who were actively involved in discussion

Such educational program, which is directly aimed at schoolchildren, is expected to raise their awareness of the importance of healthy living and to keep them away from smoking, guaranteeing them a better future.
